Writing papers is one of the most important ways of communicating the results of research to the research community and getting feedback on it to inform future directions.
The aim of this session is describe the structure of informatics publications and to provide practical guidance on the publication process: how choose a publication venue, write a paper, submit it, address reviewers criticisms, etc.
Content
- Discussion and Q/A sessions.
- Exercise: Each attendee writes a 300 word abstract describing their PhD project and submits this in advance of the conference. During this session, attendees will be paired, swap abstracts, review them then discuss the reviews.
The session will be covering the following points, and any other points suggested by the presenter:
- Structure of informatics publications.
- The reasons for presenting your work for publication.
- Types of publication venues and choosing the appropriate one.
- Preparing and submitting papers.
- The review process.
- Co-authors agreement, copyright transfer, reprints.
